Faculty and Staff Tour Parrish Hall

Manassas Campus faculty and staff recently gathered for a much anticipated tour of Harry J. Parrish Hall.

State-of-the-art computer, engineering and biology labs appear to be move-in ready. Fine Arts Program Head Randy Michener was delighted with his first look at the large art room that boasts an abundance of natural light as well as separate prep and storage areas.

Other building features include student lounges, seminar rooms, faculty offices, and a Barnes and Noble bookstore.

The beautiful structure should be ready for occupancy soon and classes are expected to take place in Parrish Hall during the spring second eight-week session.

Parrish Family Gets First Look at Parrish Hall

Several members of the Parrish family recently took a tour of the nearly finished Harry J. Parrish Hall.

While standing in the airy art studio on the third floor, Manassas Mayor Harry J. Parrish II expressed his family’s appreciation for naming the structure after his father, former Virginia Delegate Harry J. Parrish, and commented on the building’s beauty.

“In addition to providing a wonderful place for students to continue their educations, Parrish Hall will provide a pleasant environment for the students, faculty, staff and guests with its massive windows and striking design,” Parrish said.

Tour participants included Virginia Senator Charles Colgan, NOVA Board members James White and Hong Xu, President Robert G. Templin Jr. and former Provost Hortense Hinton.

“It is so very fitting that the building be named in honor of Delegate Parrish, a lifelong resident of the region and a public servant for most of his life,” Hinton said. “He visited and shared in many events on the Campus and the new building recognizes his stature, presence and contribution in a very appropriate and memorable way.”

Project Executive Todd Niefeld of Hess Construction and Engineering Services shared details of the construction process and discussed the materials selected to finish the floors, walls and ceilings. He expects Parrish Hall to be completed by the end of 2011.

A New Addition Is Coming to NOVA's MA Campus ... Harry J. Parrish Hall

Opening in spring of 2012, Harry J. Parrish Hall will add 55,000 square feet of academic space to the Manassas Campus. An additional 2,500 square feet will house the new Barnes & Noble bookstore.

The building will contain twelve computer-based laboratories, fourteen lecture rooms, four biology laboratories, a combined electronics and engineering laboratory, an art studio as well as faculty and staff offices.

Parrish Hall will also receive its LEED Silver Certification when occupied.

The Manassas Campus extends our gratitude to the citizens of the Commonwealth of Virginia and the General Assembly for making Harry J. Parrish Hall a reality.

Who is Harry J. Parrish?

A dedicated public servant whose service to the Northern Virginia community spanned nearly fifty-five years, Mr. Harry J. Parrish (1922-2006) began public service in 1951 as a member of the Manassas Town Council. As Mayor for eighteen years, he had a vision that included the formation of Northern Virginia Community College’s Manassas Campus.

Mr. Parrish served as a member of the Virginia House of Delegates from 1982 until 2006, representing the 50th District which includes the Cities of Manassas, Manassas Park and part of Prince William County.

Mr. Parrish lived his entire life in service to his country, his state, his community, his church and his family. He was a strong advocate and supporter of education and of Northern Virginia Community College. It is for these reasons the Northern Virginia Community College Board has approved the naming of Academic Building Phase III for Harry J. Parrish.
